Mrs. Betty Montez Gatlin, age 75, of Macclenny, FL, passed away on Wednesday, December 2nd, at Haven Hospice in Orange Park, FL following an illness. Mrs. Gatlin was born in Moultrie, GA and lived in Milton, FL before making her home in Baker County, FL in 1980. Mrs. Gatlin worked for many years doing what she loved, cooking and serving school lunches in the Baker County School System Cafeteria. She was known for her amazing big smile, and as one of the best cooks in town. When she wasn’t making her famous macaroni and cheese and potato salad Mrs. Gatlin loved spending time with her family, friends, and going to church. Mrs. Gatlin was a member of First Baptist Church of Sanderson and attended there for many years. She loved the Lord, her family, and never met a stranger. Mrs. Gatlin is preceded in death by her parents; Carl and Lorene Owens; two brothers; Billy Owens and Dalton Owens; one sister; Debra Hughes; and one granddaughter Jessica Sollicito. She is survived by the love of her life Mr. Jim Gatlin of Macclenny, FL whom she was married to for 56 years. One son; James (Peggy) Gatlin of Lake Butler, FL; two daughters; Lisa Sollicito of Macclenny, FL; Sherry (Bruce) Scroggins of Jacksonville, FL. Six grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren also service. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Gatlin will be held on Saturday, December 5th at 1:00 P.M., in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. (2 hours before services) at the funeral home. Interment will be in Macedonia Cemetery following the funeral service.
