Mr. Claudell Walker, age 85, of Macclenny, Florida died Thursday, March 19, in the St. Vincents Riverside Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida following an extended illness. Mr. Walker had resided in Macclenny, Florida all of his life. He owned and operated Walker’s Texaco for many years and then built Claude’s Motel in 1955 which he and his wife managed for many years and then managed Claude’s Apartments and Trailer Park. He was a deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Macclenny, Fla., he was a former Baker County Commissioner, a former Macclenny City Commissioner and former Mayor of Macclenny, Fla. He was an active member for over 50 years with the Macclenny Lions Club and president for three terms, a former member of the Florida National Guard and the Macclenny volunteer fire department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and family activities. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verge D. and Myrtie Taylor Walker, siblings, Vernon Walker and Bernice Green and grandchild, Natalie Walker. He is survived by his wife, June Walker of Macclenny, Fla.: Two sons, Claude Michael (Wanda) Walker of Macclenny, Fla. and Mark D. (Susan) Walker of St. Augustine, Fla.: One brother, Virgil Eugene “Speck” Walker of Hampton, Fla.: four grandchildren, Claudett (Marcus) Mallory, Rita (Don) Mairs, Kyle Walker and Dean Walker: Seven great-grandchildren, Kessler, Blakely and Walker Mallory, Ava, Cole, Ben and Sarah Mairs. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 P.M. Monday, March 23, in the First Baptist Church, Macclenny, Fla. with Dr. Edsel M. Bone, Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Macclenny, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday, March 22, at his church.
