Mrs. Cornelia “Neal” Bates, age 98, of Moniac, Georgia passed away on Saturday, Jan. 22, following an extended illness. She was born in Moniac, Georgia and lived in Jacksonville, Florida for many years before moving back to Moniac, Georgia in 1993. She worked as a product technician inspector with Jefferson Smurfit Corporation for 36 years until her retirement in 1993. She was a member of the Moniac Baptist Church and loved growing flowers for her “Flower Wagon” at her home for people to enjoy. She also enjoyed trips to Biloxi, Mississippi with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Gussie Reynolds Crawford, her siblings Celdon Crawford, Gene Crawford, Ruby O’Quinn, Thelma Gainey and Retha Mae Raulerson and brother-in-law Cotton Rewis. She is survived by her sister, Gencie Rewis of Monaic, Georgia; sister-in-law Sue Crawford of Moniac, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Bates will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday, Jan. 26, in the Moniac Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Rouse and Rev. Fred Raulerson officiating. Interment will be in North Prong Cemetery, Baker County, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the church. GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, U.S. 90 East, Macclenny, Florida is in charge of arrangements.
