Daniel "Dan" Melvin Higginbotham Jr

Mr. Daniel “Dan” Melvin Higginbotham, Jr., age 74, of Macclenny, Florida died Saturday, Dec. 23, in the St. Vincent's Riverside Community Hospice, Jacksonville, Florida following an extended illness. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida and has resided in Macclenny, Florida for the past 43 years. He worked as a material handler with Anchor Glass Company, Jacksonville, Florida for over 32 years until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Macclenny Primitive Baptist Church and enjoyed raising parakeet birds for many years. He was a former member of the union at Anchor Glass Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel M. and Jennie Vee Bell Higginbotham, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie C. Higginbotham of Macclenny, Florida: His daughter, Becky (Travis) Thomas of Macclenny, Florida: One grandson, Corey Thomas: One brother, David Higginbotham of Dinsmore, Florida: one half-sister, Lora O'Berry of Middleburg, Fla: Two half-brothers, Clarence (Peggy) O'Berry of Macclenny, Florida and Frank (Laura) O’Berry of North Carolina: Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Higginbotham will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, Dec. 28, in the Macclenny Primitive Baptist Church with Elder David Crawford, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Mill Creek Cemetery, Hilliard, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 5 to 7 P.M.
