Mr. David E. “ Gene” Long, age 76, of Macclenny, FL passed away Friday, September 18, in the comfort of his son’s home, after an extended illness. Mr. Gene was born in Macclenny, FL to the late Hugh and Irene Wilkerson Long. He was a lifelong resident of Baker County and spent most of his life attending Raiford Road Church before recently becoming a member of the Community Full Gospel Church, Glen St. Mary, Florida. Mr. Gene worked as a mechanic for Yale Forklift’s for over 20 years and retired from the company in the early 2000’s. He loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with his family. Mr. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, his late wife, Rebekah “Becky”, and one sister, Alta Hinkle. He is survived by two sons, Joe (Michele) Long of Glen St. Mary, FL and John (Rachael) Long of Lake Butler, FL: one brother, William “Buddy” Long (Marsha) of Lake Butler, FL: one sister, Carolyn Gainey of Macclenny, FL and five grandchildren, Morgan Griffis, D.J. (Britney) Long, Amelia Long, Gavin Freeman, and Paisley Long. A Graveside service to honor the life of Mr. Gene will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, September 23 in Macedonia Cemetery with Bro. Eddie Griffis and Pastor Ron Drawdy, officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 10:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. in Macedonia Cemetery before the service. Interment will immediately follow the graveside service. Guerry Funeral Home, U.S. 90 E., Macclenny, FL has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
