Mr. Dolphus C. “D.C.” Rivers, Sr., 79 of Lake City passed away on Monday, May 14, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Lake City. He was born in Lake City and was a son to the late James and Erma Roberts Rivers. Mr. Rivers had been a resident of Lake City for the past 12 years having previously lived in Jacksonville. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, a Veteran of the United States Army serving during Korea, a 25 year officer and retired Deputy Sheriff with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Mr. Rivers was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing when able. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys M. Rivers in 2002.
He is survived by his three sons; Dolphus C. (Carolyn) Rivers, Jr., Glen St. Mary, James (Marion) Rivers, Macclenny and David (Debbie) Rivers, Glen St. Mary, the mother of his children; Ms Lovurn Rivers, Glen St. Mary, one sister; Beulah Wadford, Lake City; and one grandson, Joshua Rivers.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Griffis and Rev. James Merritt officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Suwannee County. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
