Ms. Edith Lee Wilds, age 95, of Lake City, Florida went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 3, 2022. Edith was born in Miami, Florida on February 21, 1927.Edith is preceded in death by her parents Jesse James Greek and Minnie G. Greek, her son Lewis H. Wilds, Jr., daughter Deborah Sue Wilds, granddaughter Tina Michelle Tillman, and grandson Donald “Donny” Anthony Ham.Edith is survived by four children, Carol Belinda “Linda” Ham, Jesse Howard Wilds, David Milton Wilds, and Mary Melissa Wilds, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
For many years Edith worked for a phone company in North Carolina before venturing off on her own to start up an answering service in the 1970’s in New Orleans, LA. During the late 70’s Edith’s mother, Minnie, passed away, and her father, Jesse moved in with her. Jesse had lived in Live Oak for many, many years, so when he moved to New Orleans, it just wasn’t home. Edith’s answering service in New Orleans was very successful, however she decided to sell that business in 1981, to move back to Lake City where she continued to care for her father. After the move, Edith opened up a new answering service in Lake City and, it too, was very successful. After selling that business around 1990, she started working for Suwannee Medical Personnel as a staffing coordinator. Edith worked for Suwannee Medical Personnel for 32 years and was fortunate to continue working at a place that she loved up until approximately one month prior to her death. Edith loved interacting with the clients and personnel and she kept working because it kept her mind sharp and engaged in life.
Edith had a keen sense of humor, was compassionate, very giving, and loved everyone. No one was a stranger. Edith’s compassionate nature was to help others succeed in life. Her home was open to those who needed a place to stay until they were able to succeed on their own. Edith had a calmness and natural ability to give good advice to others. Her warm and nurturing demeanor was felt by all who met Edith.
Edith enjoyed playing games on the computer, playing card games with family and friends, and meeting family and friends at BINGO where she was an avid and expert player. Even into her 90’s she could outplay the number of BINGO cards by those who were much younger than her and amazed people by her desire to continue working.
Family was at the center of everything that Edith did. Her family feels very fortunate to have had five generations living for over 11 years. She valued family and was an inspiration and wonderful role model to her entire family. She will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
