Mr. Edward Lewis Carpenter, age 88, of Macclenny, Florida died Wednesday, May 13, in the St. Vincent’s Community Hospice, Jacksonville, Florida following a long illness. He was born in Rutherfordton, North Carolina and had lived in Macclenny, Florida since 1970. He worked for the City of Jacksonville, Florida as a civil engineer and head of the Structural and Architectural Department until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Macclenny, Florida and received his degree in Civil Engineering from Auburn University. He was an Army veteran of W.W. II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Lewis Carpenter and Gertrude Edwards Carpenter Huntley and his brother, Eugene Carpenter. He is survived by his two daughters, Karen C. (Richard) Dolan and Deborah C. (Edwin) Cavannaugh and his son, David L. Carpenter all of Macclenny, Florida: Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive. A remembrance service to honor the life of Mr. Carpenter will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, May 18, in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Thompson, Pastor, officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 10 to 11 A.M. Monday (One hour before services) at the church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Macclenny, Florida.
