Mrs. Eleanor Louise Giddens, 90 of Lake City passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Baya Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lake City. She was born in Green Cove Springs, Florida to the late L.E. and Ella Moon. Mrs. Giddens was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School and the Jacksonville University both in Jacksonville. She has lived in Lake City since 1969 and previously in Jacksonville and Live Oak. Mrs. Giddens retired from Eastside Elementary School in 1979 and then went on to teach at the Lake City Community College. She was an accomplished organist and pianist and had previously been the organist for several churches in Jacksonville, the First Presbyterian Church of Live Oak and Lake City, the First United Methodist Church of Lake City and continued to give piano lessons until November of 2010. Mrs. Giddens was a member of the Hopeful Baptist Church and enjoyed being active at her church, music and playing the piano.
Mrs. Giddens is survived by her husband of 67 years, Mr. Marcus L. Giddens, one son, Marcus L. Giddens Jr. (Kathleen) and one daughter, Linda Riddle all of Lake City. Two great grandchildren, Elisabeth Esparza, Lake City and Josh Everling, Jacksonville also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Giddens will be conducted on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at the Hopeful Baptist Church with Dr. Rodney Baker and Rev. Richard Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopeful Baptist Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 2-3:00, one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hopeful Baptist Church Youth Building Fund at 289 SE Hopeful Drive, Lake City, Florida 32025.
