Mr. Fletcher Asbury Gainey, Sr., age 66, of Baxter, Fl. passed away Tuesday, September 1, in the Acosta- Rua Center for Caring, Jacksonville, Fl. following an extended illness with his family by his side. Fletcher was born in Jacksonville. He spent most summers in his younger years in Moniac with loving family. His love of this area brought him back to Baker county after he retired. He was a member of the Pine Level Church, Baxter, Fl. Fletcher was deeply loved by his family and friends. He loved God and his church. He also loved watching "his" Florida Gators, NASCAR and his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and just about anything outdoors. He loved old cars and knives. His favorite time of the year was fall in the mountains. He loved to travel north to watch the leaves change. The last 10 years he spent most of his days on his "new" hobby of making stag handled knives. He became a very well known member of EBAY selling his absolutely beautiful knives. His knives were purchased from just about every state and Australia, South America, Sweden, London, China, Japan, and many other far away places. His talents will be forever cherished by many all over the world. He is preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Marjorie Jones Gainey, and one son, John Hale Gainey. He is survived by his wife, Meloney L. Gainey of Baxter, Fl.: Two sons, Fletcher A. Gainey, Jr. (Leslie) and Adam D. Gainey (Melissa) both of Macclenny, Fl and two step-sons, Chris McGee (Aimee) of Jacksonville, Fl. and Kerry McGee (Pamela) of Chicago, Il.: Two daughters, Ashley Sofge (Daniel) of Folkston, Ga. and Kaitlyn Crews (Aaron) of Tifton, Ga.: Four brothers, Lewis Gainey (Alice) of Jacksonville, Fl., Amos Gainey of Baxter, Fl., Ronald Gainey (Patricia) of Jacksonville, Fl. and Dana Gainey (Sherry) of Richmond, Va.: Three sisters, Linda Mills of Richmond, Va., Mae Smith (Sid) and Connie Sossamon (Leonard) both of Jacksonville, Fl. Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Gainey was held on Saturday, September 5 at 11 A.M. at Pine Level Church with Rev. Fred Raulerson, Pastor, officiating.
