George Hoyt Holmes

June 23, 1939 — March 26, 2015

Mr. George “Buddy” Hoyt Holmes, age 75, of Taylor, Florida died Thursday, March 26, in the St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospice, Jacksonville, Florida following an extended illness.  He had resided in Taylor, Florida for the past 18 years after living in Macclenny and Glen St. Mary, Fla. In 1957 he joined the Coast Guard and was stationed in Norfolk, VA. He worked most of his life as a construction superintendent both in Jacksonville, FL. and Houston, TX. most recently with the Inspection Group, Inc. He was also involved in the construction of Launch Pad 39A in Cape Canaveral, FL. and Disney World. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, wildlife photography and his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George H. and Lillie Mae Evans Holmes. He is survived by his wife, Freya K. Holmes of Taylor, Florida:  Daughters, Gina Hrovat (Bruce) of Barrington, Rhode Island and Lisa Holmes-Gunn (Jim) of Palm Bay, Florida: Son, Tracy Hill Holmes (Kristina) of Middleburg, Florida: Brother, Thomas Holmes and  numerous grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 P.M. ,Tuesday, March 31, in the Chapel of GUERRY FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Jim Cox, Assistant Pastor of The Taylor Church, officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from  1 to 2 P. M. Tuesday (One hour before services) at  GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, U.S. 90 East, Macclenny Avenue, Macclenny, Florida.
