Mr. George B. Rodgers, 84 and longtime resident of Jacksonville, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at his home in Keystone Heights. Mr. Rodgers was born in Sanderson, Florida to the late William Leroy and Nettie Lee Dowling Rodgers. He had lived in Jacksonville since 1960 having previously lived in Glen St. Mary. He was a member of the Teamster’s Union and a retired truck driver with the Carolina Freight Company for over thirty years. Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Shirley Dugger Rodgers in 2011.
Survivors include one daughter, Gail (Bill) Riddell, Amelia Island, FL; one son, Billy (Betty) Rodgers, Keystone Heights, FL; one brother, Rev. James Gordon (Sherron) Rodgers, Glen St. Mary; one sister, Margie Lee Darnell, Palatka; seven grandchildren, Alison (Scott) Everill, Will (Christina) Riddell, Erin (Luke) Carter, Zachary Rodgers, Rebekah Lynn Rodgers, Michael Ninos and Tyler Rodgers; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at Macclenny Church of God with Rev. Charles Snipes officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Macclenny. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 11-12 Noon.
