Irma Jones Brown

Mrs. Irma Jones Brown, age 98 of Lake City, Fla. died Sunday, December 4, 2011 in the Suwannee Valley Care Center, Lake City. She was a life long resident of Lake City and Columbia County. She worked as manager of office operations for the Farmers and Home Administration (FHA) in Lake City for over thirty years. She attended Mason City Schools and business college. She was acting sexton for Mt. Tabor Cemetery most of her adult life, enjoyed gardening, baking cookies and looking after family and friends. She lived on 4th Street, later named Irma Ave, in Lake City for over 60 years. She was a charter member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church of Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Levi Jones and Lois Markham Jones, her late husband, Claude W. Brown (WWII Purple Heart Recipient), her sisters, Mable Page and Elaine Goodhart and her brother, Samuel Levi Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Marianne (Gil) Whedbee of Suwannee, Fla.; Her son, Gene Lamar (Chris) Farnell of St. Augustine, Fla.; One brother, Glen I. (Doris “Dodo”) Jones of Lake City, Fla.; Seven grandchildren, Julie (Michael) Happy, Nanette Vrana, Beverly Farnell, John (Cathy) Myers, Tom (Jill) Whedbee, Sarabeth Whedbee and Chris (Maria) Whedbee; Eight great-grandchildren, three great- great-grandchildren, ten nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. A very special thank you to her loving caregivers, Marlene Kaemmer and Cindy Wild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 PM Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Louie Mabry, Pastor, officiating and assisted by Rev. Fred Edwards, Pastor of Suwannee Baptist Church. Interment will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Columbia County, Fla. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the funeral home.
