Jerry Wayne Bryant

November 24, 1939 — January 15, 2018

Mr. Jerry Wayne Bryant, Sr., also known as Wayne or J.W., age 78, left this earth for his new home on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, after a battle with COPD and  lung cancer.  Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Sherrianne, of 37 years. He also leaves behind a son, Jerry W. Bryant, Jr. (Joyce) of Palm Harbor, Fla. and daughters, Eva Martino (Joe) of Lake City and Patty Wise (David) of Saint Albans, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his son, Wendell  J. Bryant and daughter,  Brenda M. Blue. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, of whom he loved and taught them so many great values. His wish was for them to remember him. Wayne was the eldest son of the late Willie J. and Gertrude Slaughter Bryant. He is also survived by a brother, Gary Bryant, sisters, Faye Bishop, Gail Wilson and Foylen Bryant. Wayne was born in Oxford, Florida  and grew up in Lakeland, Florida and attended Kathleen High School and played on the varsity football team. He also sang with the Future Farmers of America Gospel Quartet, winning a state wide competition in 1956. The quartet also performed on a televised program with the Florida Boys Quartet. He graduated from the Christian Home and Bible School in Mt. Dora, Florida. Wayne never met a stranger and loved to talk and read. Wayne moved to Lake City in 1962 from Brevard County, Fla. and was employed  by  Florida Power and Light in various capacities. In 1980 he owned and operated Bryant’s Tires and Towing in Lake City. He participated in Little League Baseball for many years and was a member of the Lake City Church of Christ. A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Bryant will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, Jan 20, in the Lake City Church of Christ, 656 S.W. State Road 47, Lake City, Fla.with Minister Brandon Britton, Pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Haven Hospice or the American Cancer Society. GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Florida is in charge of arrangements.
