Mr. Joe Rodney Helms, age74, of Lake City, Fla. died suddenly Sunday, June 10, at his residence. He was a native of Marshville, N.C. and had resided in Lake City, Fla. since 1964. He worked and retired as a fireman with the Lake City Fire Department and Aero Corp. for many years. He worked also as a real estate appraiser with Cole Real Estate, Lake City, Fla. for 26 years until his death. He was a deacon with the Salem Primitive Baptist Church of Columbia County. He was preceded in death by his parents Fulton Olander Helms and Goldie Mildred Edwards Helms and his wife Rachel Bullard Helms. He is survived by two daughters, Angie (Roger) Lawton of Roswell, Ga. and Holly (Patrick) Hadlock of Heathrow, Fla.: One sister Ann Presson of Marshville, N.C.: Four brothers Jimmy (Bonnie) Helms and Richard (Sue) Helms both of Marshville, N.C., Ned (Rena) Helms of Monroe, N.C. and Larry (Shirley) Helms of Matthews, N.C.: Two grandchildren Matthew and Caleb Lawton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M., Thursday, June 14, in the Salem Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Herman W. Griffin officiating. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Columbia County, Fla. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M., Wednesday, June 13, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Fla.
