John A. Motherwell

August 2, 1946 — July 24, 2011

Mr. John Arthur Motherwell, 64 of Sanderson passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville. A native of Erie, Pennsylvania, Mr. Motherwell had lived in Sanderson for the past 20 years. He was a retired veteran of the United States Navy having retired in 1988 as a Chief with 24 years of service and 3 tours in Vietnam. Mr. Motherwell owned and operated his own custom furniture business from 1990-2000, was a past instructor for Extraction at the Lake City Community College and taught Fire Fighter 1 and First Responder Classes for a number of years. He also was a licensed paramedic and worked with Baker County Emergency Management for 10 years, was the Baker County Fire Marshall for 10 years and was a volunteer with the Baker County Fire Department for 16 years. Mr. Motherwell was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Motherwell is survived by his wife, Rosemary K. Motherwell, Sanderson, three sons, Robert Allen (Brenda), St. Augustine, Steve Motherwell, Memphis, TN and Scott Motherwell (Dedra), Germantown, TN and two daughters, Rosanne Austin (Chuck), Green Cove Springs and Diana Smith, Sardis, Miss.. Two brothers, Dave Motherwell, Wichita Falls, TX and Gary Motherwell, North East, PA, three sisters, Nancey Colter, Indiana, Alta Skinner, Erie, PA and Frances Miller, North East, PA and seven grandchildren, Amanda, Whitney, J.J., John, Graham, Emily and Dustin also survive.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Motherwell will be conducted on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the North Prong Cemetery with Rev. Tom Pope officiating. Interment will follow. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
