John William Stoerkel

January 27, 1939 — December 20, 2010

Mr. John William Stoerkel, 71 of Wellborn passed away on Monday, December 20, 2010 at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Mr. Stoerkel had previously lived in Conklin, NY, Key West, Fl, Marco Island, Fl and for the past five years in Wellborn. Mr. Stoerkel had a great sense of humor which he passed on to his family. He was an original “Tree Hugger” because of his love of being outdoors and with nature. He enjoyed bird watching, reading, stamp collecting and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. During the summer he enjoyed traveling with his wife and family on many camping trips. Mr. Stoerkel was of the Lutheran Faith and a member of the Spirit of Christ Lutheran Church in Lake City.

Mr. Stoerkel is survived by his wife of fifty years, Janet L. Stoerkel, Wellborn, one son, Stephen John Stoerkel, Wellborn and two daughters, Kathy L. Thompson (Lester), Sebastopol, CA and Laurie Stoerkel, Oakland, CA. One brother, Richard Stoerkel, Camden, SC, one sister, Carol Misialek, Fairchance, PA and three grandchildren, Clara Marie Saguto and Paul Michael Saguto both of Sebastopol, CA and Emily Stoerkel, Lake City also survive.

A memorial service honoring the life of Mr. Stoerkel will be conducted in January of 2011 at the Spirit of Christ Lutheran Church in Lake City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gods Global Barnyard to purchase pigs and other farm animals with checks made payable to Evangelical Lutheran Church of America at 39488 Treasury Center, Chicago, IL 60694-9400 or www.elca.org/goodgifts. Arrangements are under the direction of GUERRY Funeral Home, Lake City.
