After his honorable discharge he married Jeanne (Karp) on Oct 3, 1959. He then worked in the family Meister Bräu beer distributorship in Joliet, IL until he moved his family to Stephenson, MI. in 1968. There, he and Jeanne owned and operated the Home-n-Bar. He often worked a second job. He was a supervisor at YarCraft boats and Menominee Box shop. Even with the demands of owning a business and working a second job, he always found time to support his children’s activities and attending their many sporting events. He was an avid fisherman who greatly enjoyed fishing with his family, grandchildren, and many friends, especially for sturgeon on the Menominee River in the Upper Peninsula of MI. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and Sportsmen’s Club. Even after relocating to Lake City in 1986, he made the trip back to the Stephenson area for the annual sturgeon season. While in Lake City, he worked for Homes of Merit as a Supervisor until his retirement. As a skilled carpenter and craftsman, he was instrumental in contributing to the Annual Olustee Festival Sea Battle re-enactment for more than 15 years by designing and building the two replica battleships – CSS Virginia & USS Monitor. He was a very active member of Epiphany Catholic Church where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He held the rank of 4th degree. He played Santa Claus every year to the Catholic school children and could be seen in his Santa Suit ringing the bell for Salvation Army donations. Ken is survived by Jeanne, his wife of 61 years, Lake City, FL, sons Paul (Cindy), Gilbert, AZ and Scott (Joy), McPherson, KS, and daughter Kendra, Chicago, IL; one brother Bruce; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, nephews and nieces.
