Mr. Kenneth Michael “Mike” Gainey, Sr., 43 of Taylor passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at the Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park. Mike was born in Macclenny and was a life long resident of Baker County and the Taylor Community. He graduated from Baker County High School in 1987 where he played for the Varsity Wildcat Football team and then joined the United States Marine Corp. Mike worked for 20 years with Florida Wire and Cable with 15 of those years at the Sanderson wire mill. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, collecting Star Trek and Bald Eagle memorabilia and was an avid Florida Gator fan. He attended the Taylor Church and was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clayton and Matilda Gainey of St. George, GA and his maternal grandparents, Eullie and Edith Richardson of Taylor, FL.
Mr. Gainey is survived by two sons, Kenneth Michael Gainey, Jr., Taylor and Gabriel Johnson, Daytona Beach, Fl, his parents, Chuck and Louise Gainey, Taylor, one brother and sister in law, Greg and Janice Gainey, Taylor, two grandchildren, Victoria Jayden Gainey and Tyler Chase Gainey, numerous uncle, aunts, cousins and his longtime dog and friend, “Odie”.
Funeral services for Mr. Gainey will be conducted on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 3:00 PM in the Taylor Church in Taylor with Rev. Mark Woods and Rev. Jim Cox, pastors, officiating. Interment will follow in the Taylor Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corp. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home.
