Lester Warren Davis, age 86, of Glen St. Mary, FL, went home to be with Jesus on September, 5th, 2024 at UF Health Jacksonville. He was born on August 2nd, 1938 in Sanderson, FL to Gilford and Rosetta Davis.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings and loving wife of 60 years, Patricia Davis. He is survived by his 3 children: Jason Davis (Kristen) of Trenton, Michigan, Jeffrey Davis (Amy) of Glen St. Mary, FL, and DeeDee Lawhon (Bill) of Live Oak, FL; his sister Ila Taylor (Carl) of Lake City, FL, and 5 grandchildren: Kaylan Davis (Brason Caley), Dominic Konwinski, Jade Davis, Aaron Lawhon, and Hannah Davis.
Lester was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1961-1967. His specialty was a cook, but his claims of being in the Special Forces and conducting many high-level, top secret missions can neither be confirmed nor denied. He also claimed to have served in World War II, both in Europe and the Pacific, as well as the Korean and Vietnam Wars, but his family is highly suspicious of his “stories”. He was widely known for his story-telling, which was the culmination of 86 years of being the youngest of 11 siblings, his time in the Army, and his years as a Union Camp maintenance man. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin who would do anything and everything for his family. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading & collecting Louis L’Amour books, and riding his golf cart around the neighborhood as the self-appointed sheriff of Gilford Davis Road.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, September 8th, 2024 at Christian Fellowship Temple. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M., followed by services at 3:00 P.M., officiated by Timmy Thomas and David Thomas. Guerry Funeral Home, U.S. 90 E., Macclenny, FL is honored to serve the family.
