Linda Herndon Crews, age 82, passed away Saturday February 1st. She was born in Lake City on December 24, 1942, to the late John Henry and Lois Herndon. She was preceded in death by her husband Everett of 62 years.
Linda is survived by her two children, John Paul (Rhonda) Crews and Paula (Robb) Burns both of Lake City, Florida. Grandchildren: John Crews, Tamber (Jared) Curlin, Heather (Trevor) Touchton all of Lake City, Florida and Hannah Burns of Gainesville, Florida and five great grandchildren Brooklyn Crews, Masyn Crews, Kash Curlin, Rhett and Emberleigh Touchton. Brother David (JoAnn) Herndon, sister Velma Dortch, sister-in-law Linda Gail Herndon, brother-in-law Wayne Crews, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Linda was a lifelong resident of Columbia County, where she made a lasting impact through her unwavering dedication to her work and her community. She devoted 45 years to the Columbia County Resources, where she played a key role in daily operations, small events, and the organization of annual events such as the County Fair and Pro Rodeo. Linda also devoted 41 years at the Columbia County Livestock Market.
Linda was a devoted member of the Lake City Church of Christ. Linda had the heart of a true servant. She served in numerous capacities and always gave generously of her time and experience. She spent many years teaching the youngest Bible school students aged two and three years old. When no longer teaching she continued to be involved by volunteering to help prepare materials for teachers to use in the classroom. Linda also assisted in organizing a variety of church literature over the years including House to House Heart to Heart. She also mailed the weekly church bulletins to former members after they moved away so they could stay connected with the congregation. Linda found joy in the kitchen, always being the first to arrive and the last to leave. She organized meals and snacks for Vacation Bible School for many years. Linda had a sincere love for the sick and those who couldn’t leave their homes. She prepared meals for many and partnered with others to visit them regularly. Linda also made it a point to order flowers for church families during times of loss.
Linda did many things anonymously to help those in her church family and countless other people in her community. Her kind, caring spirit will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for Mrs. Linda Crews will be conducted on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Lake City Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Lake City. A time of visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the chapel at Guerry Funeral Home. Guerry Funeral Home, 2659 SW Main Blvd, Lake City is in charge of arrangements.
