Linda Gray Scarbrough

Linda Gray Scarbrough, 73 years young, went to be with the Lord on March 23, 2023, with her husband and daughter by her side in Gainesville Florida, at the time of 10:55 a.m.Linda was born in New Martinsville, a small city in Wetzel County, West Virginia, along the Ohio River. She was born to the proud parents of Clarence and Mary Francis Righter Gray.Her father, an Herbalist and folk doctor, Clarence Frederick “Catfish” Gray died in Huntington on March 13, 2002, at age 84. He was a native of Jackson County.Her mother worked hard, caring and raising 10 children and being a home maker in the foothills of West Virginia. Mary passed on April 16, 1991 at the young age of 75, in West Virginia. Linda would spend her days at her grandmother's house eating cherries off the tree by the porch. She was an accomplished seamstress, making her own clothes to wear. Most importantly she loved her family, traveling, and her cat. She married the love of her life, Jimmy Wayne Scarbrough, in October of 1969 in Clearwater Florida. Jimmy is the son to the proud parents, James Lamar Scarbrough and Mildred Ophia Gray Scarbrough. James was a veteran in the Army during WW2. He passed away on June 15th, 2004, at the young age of 77. He is laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Mildred is still with us today. Jimmy was born in Moultrie Georgia, on May 2nd, 1949. He joined the Navy on August 7th and was enlisted for 20 years. His rank was Machinist Mate first class Petty officer. He served in four tours of duty and traveled to Guam where Linda and her family lived for 1 year in 1980.

Their daughter, Christine Daphne Scarbrough Tompkins, was born December 5th, 1971 in Florida. She married James David Tompkins in 1994 in Tampa, Fla. Christine has 2 daughters Lauren 20 and Torri 12. They live in Citrus County,  Florida. Linda is survived by her husband Jimmy Scarbrough; Her Daughter, Christine Tompkins; Son in law, David Tompkins; Granddaughters, Lauren & Torri Tompkins;Her sisters, Betty Moore, Jean Troup, Madonna and Violet; and brothers Rusty Gray, John Gray, Earl Gray, Dorman Gray. “We will always carry your memory in our hearts” A graveside service to honor the life of Mrs. Linda will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, on Wednesday, March 29th at 12:30 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Paul Alonso of the Wahoo Baptist Church of Bushnell, Florida. GUERRY FUNERAL HOME 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Florida, has been entrusted with the services.
