Lonnie Joe Evans

Lake City

Mr. Lonnie Joe Evans, a lifelong resident of Columbia County, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the age of 91. A son of the late Edward Vance and Zelma Roberts Evans, Lonnie was a graduate of the Mason City School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Army and was proud to serve. After his service, he spent the next forty years working as a truck driver, hauling for both the Copeland Sausage Company in Alachua and Harvey Faul Trucking locally. Mr. Evans was a longtime member of Athens Baptist Church, and he thoroughly enjoyed attending the church’s social gatherings, talking and visiting with fellow members. He will be remembered as a “people person” as he loved to talk to and get to know people wherever he went. He loved music, especially country and gospel, was an avid NASCAR and Florida State Seminole fan, and also a Miami Dolphins fan. Mr. Evans is survived by his daughters: Cindy Royals of Lake City and Debra (Joe) Breen of Longview, Texas and grandchildren: Rachel Breen and Tyler Breen of Longview, TX and M.J. Muniz of Gainesville. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-eight years: Ida Mae Evans, daughter: Michelle Evans, son-in-law: Christopher Royals, brothers: Lonzo Evans, Earl Evans, and Pomeroy Evans, and sister: Vera Sanders. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm, Monday, March 24, 2025, in the chapel at Guerry Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Carter officiating. Interment will follow the service at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lake City. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
