Maggie Leanne Shook

Jazz musician J.J. Johnson once said, "Jazz is restless. It won't stay put and it never will!" Like the music she studied, taught, and performed, our precious Maggie LeAnne Shook has not stayed put, leaving us to be with her Lord on June 10, 2014. Maggie was a member of Macclenny Primitive Baptist Church. She graduated from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in 1998, and continued studies in Jazz and English Literature at the University of North Florida. She was an accomplished jazz and blues pianist who taught piano and performed both solo and in bands since her early teens. Her love of music and performing guided her career and provided solace in life. She has been an inspiration to all who knew and loved her, captivating hearts with her beautiful smile and sweet spirit. Regardless of the challenges she faced, Maggie found joy and shared it always. Maggie leaves behind a family who adored her and gave her not only roots, but wings to soar. She is survived by her parents, Joey and Karen Shook; sister, Amanda (Matt) Moore; niece and nephew, Emma Moore and Elijah Moore; beloved fiancé, Kevin Chobert; grandparents Ora Davis and Betty Shook; and countless other family, friends, and fellow artists who loved and appreciated her for the loving, caring, special soul she was. Our love for and memories of Maggie Shook will remain in our hearts forever. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, June 13, at First Baptist Church of Macclenny, with Elder David Crawford and Elder Jim Sandlin officiating. Interment will be in South Prong Cemetery, Sanderson, Florida.
