Mr. Marcus Lafayette Giddens, Sr., age 95, of Lake City, Florida passed away at his home with his family on August 22, 2015. He was born in Lenox, Georgia on February 15, 1920 and graduated from Adel High School of Adel, Georgia in May 1939. After high school, he worked as a part time cotton buyer until he volunteered for the U.S. Army on June 20, 1940. He served in the South Pacific during W.W. II and also served and saw combat during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged from the army and went on to get a college education and became a teacher. He got his college degree in history and political science from Jacksonville University and spent many years teaching school in Jacksonville, Live Oak and Lake City. He retired from teaching in 1979 after being at Columbia High School for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Duncan Vernon and Corrie Mae Shaw Giddens and his beloved wife of 67 years, Eleanor Louise Moon Giddens, whom he married on August 30, 1944. He enjoyed fishing in the local rivers, collecting stamps, was an avid gardener and enjoyed frying fish with friends and family. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Riddle of Lake City, Fla.: His son, Marcus L. (Kathy) Giddens, Jr, of Lake City, Fla.: great-granddaughter, Elisabeth Esparza: great-grandson, Josh Everling: One sister, Vivian Teague of Jacksonville, Fla.: several nieces and nephews also survive. A remembrance service to honor the life of Mr. Giddens will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Rodriguez, associate pastor with Hopeful Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 10 to 11 A. M. Wednesday (One hour before services) at the funeral home After the services, family and friends are invited to Mr. Giddens home for food and fellowship. GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W.
