Mary Combs Tarte

Mary Combs Tarte, 87, of Glen Saint Mary, Florida, was called home September 21st, 2024, following a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family at St. Vincent’s Riverside.

She was born to the late Owen (Son) Combs, Sr. and Ruby Davis Combs. Mary was born in Sanderson, Florida and was a lifelong resident of Baker County. She attended Sanderson High School and was a lifetime member of Macclenny Church of God. Mary worked as a supervisor at Lake Butler Apparel and in the laundry at Northeast Florida State Hospital until her retirement.  As a loving mother and grandmother, Mary loved spending quality time with her family, cooking for family gatherings, attending church, and gardening.

She is proceeded in death by George (Billy) Tarte, siblings, Martha Staier, Mattie Norman, Owen (Buddy) Combs, Jr, and son-in-law, Larry Griffis.  She is survived by her children, Freida Griffis, Donna (Eugene) Richardson, Wallace (Tonya) Tarte: grandchildren, Jason Griffis, Bryan (Melissa) Richardson, Angela (Brad) Rhoden, Caban Tarte, Meara-Lynn (Drew) Carter: great-grandchildren, Titus Richardson, Karis Richardson, Miley Shay Rhoden, Jade Richardson, Max Rhoden, Wade Carter, and Drake Carter: Sister, Norma Jean Howard: sister-in-law, Eileen Callaway, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was blessed to be surrounded with great neighbors and many friends.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Mary will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, September 25th in the Macclenny Church of God with Pastor Shannon Connor and Pastor Bryan Richardson officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, September 24th at her church. She will be laid to rest in South Prong Cemetery following the service.
