Mr. Melvin Ballard Williams, age 90, of St. George, Georgia died Friday, Dec. 18, in the V.A. Medical Center, Lake City, Florida following a long illness. He was born in Mooresville, North Carolina and had resided in the Moniac community in the Georgia bend for over 65 years. He worked as a poultry farmer most of his life and also drove a school bus for the Charlton County School Board for many years. He attended the Moniac Baptist Church and in his spare time enjoyed flying gyrocopters and built his own gyrocopter many years ago. He was a former member of a local flying club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bertie Iola Carpenter Williams and his late wife, Daisybelle Thrift Williams. He is survived by his son, Randy (Irene) Williams of St. George, Georgia: Two grandchildren, Becky Adair and Stacy Guerrero: Eight great-grandchildren also survive. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Williams will be held at 3 P.M. Monday, Dec. 21, in the Moniac Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Colvin officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Baker County, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 2 to 3 P.M. Monday (One hour before services) at the church.
