Mona Jean Thorpe Lewis, 89, of Macclenny, FL went home to be with the Lord October 4th, 2024, after an amazing life of service. She was surrounded by her family at home.
She was born to the late Hollis G. Thorpe Sr. and Jane Moon Thorpe. Mona was born in Manatee, Florida and lived in Baker County for 50 years. She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1952 and served 4 years in the Navy. She retired from Civil Service after 42 years, serving as a GS-11 Supply Clerk. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Mona loved working in her yard and flower beds. She was known for volunteering with local youth and summer camp programs. She traveled often with her family and enjoyed attending family reunions.
She is preceded in death by her husband Arron “Ray” Lewis, siblings: Hollis “Gonto” Thorpe, Robert “Bobby” Thorpe, and sister in law: Barbra Thorpe. She is survived by her sister Carolyn (Bob) Crown, children: Dean (Melissa) Lewis, Anne (Danny) Lewis, Lynn Lewis, Arron (Rosemary) Lewis, Judy Lewis, and Brenda Lewis. Grandchildren: T.C. Lewis, Danyle Lewis, Sassy Lewis, Denise (Wes) Jones, Cameron (Molly) Lewis, Erin Rose (Brian) Eaton, and 5 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Mona will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 8th at Raiford Road Church with pastor Eddie Griffis. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 7th at Guerry Funeral Home.
