Mrs. Pearly Davis Shumate, age 81, of Sanderson, Florida died Friday, Nov. 14, in the St. Vincents Medical Center, Jacksonville, Florida following a long illness. She was born in Sanderson, Florida and lived most of her there. She worked for many years as a care giver with the Baker County Council on Aging and retired in 1990. She was a member of the Dinkins New Congregational Methodist Church, Sanderson, Fla. and served as church secretary for many years. She loved her church, family and enjoyed fishing. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Coy M. Shumate, two great-grandchildren, Gracey Crews and Luke Shumate, son in law, Jeffrey Burnsed, Sr. and her parents, Albert L. “Bertie” Davis and Pearl Raulerson Davis.. She is survived by five daughters, Linda (Joey) Giddens and Denise (Keith) Walker both of Glen St. Mary, Florida, Sharon Perdue, Connie (Erbie) Terrell and Kimberly S. (Allen) Crews all of Sanderson, Florida: Three sons, Wayne (Pete) Alford and Stephen (Michelle) Shumate both of Sanderson, Florida and Coy (Nancy) Shumate, Jr. of Athens, Tennessee: Two brothers, Preston (Miriam) Davis and Carlton (Margie) Davis both of Sanderson, Florida: Sister-in-law, Shirley Davis of Sanderson, Florida: 19 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren also survive. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Shumate will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the Dinkins New Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Timothy Alford, Pastor, officiating and assisted by Rev. Allen Crews. Interment will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery, Sanderson, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6 to 8 P.M.
