Mr. Robert Franklin McGarrity, 78 of Macclenny passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Macclenny Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was a native of Woodleaf, North Carolina and a son to the late Perry and Gladys Klutz McGarrity. He was a four year veteran of the United States Navy and a graduate of Jones Business College in Jacksonville with a Business Degree. Mr. McGarrity retired in 1989 from the United States Post Office bulk mail center in Jacksonville with 25 years of employment. He had lived in Macclenny for the past thirty six years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Macclenny. In his spare time he enjoyed riding his bicycle, working in his yard and gardening.
Mr. McGarrity is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Betty J. McGarrity, Macclenny, three daughters, Joan Young (Don), Jacksonville, Shirley Doyle (Gerry) and Toni Bunch (Ward) both of Macclenny, one brother, George McGarrity (Frances), Salisbury, NC, five grandchildren, Robby Colston, Glen St. Mary, Sean Kelly and Kenny Colston both of Atlantic Beach, Madison Bunch and Gabrielle Bunch both of Macclenny and one great granddaughter, Kira Colston.
Funeral services for Mr. McGarrity will be conducted on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Dr. Edsel Bone, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Macclenny officiating. Interment will follow a Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00 PM on Monday.
