Shelia Whelan

Mrs. Shelia Whelan, 73 of Sanderson, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Haven Hospice Orange Park Care Center in Orange Park. She was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Morris and Beatrice Fisch Hershkowitz. Prior to moving to Baker County 8 years ago, Mrs. Whelan had lived in Bonifay, FL. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Baxter Community Baptist Church in Baxter. She loved her animals, enjoyed sewing and taking care of her plants. Survivors include her husband, Dennis M. Whelan, Macclenny; one son, Fred Pearl (Valerie), Flat Rock, NC; three daughters, Francine Underhill (Mike), Jacksonville, FL, Anita Rowland (Charlie), Lake Worth, FL and Rena Corcoran (Chuck), Springhill, FL; one brother, Harris Hershkowitz (Sue), West Palm Beach, FL; one sister, Nancy Gross (Elliot), Ormond Beach, FL; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 3:00 PM at the Baxter Community Baptist Church in Baxter with Rev. Greg Combs and Rev. Billy Worthington officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Baker County, FL. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church from 2-3:00 PM.
