Mr. Travis Albert Byrd, Jr, age 84, of Macclenny, Florida died Tuesday, May 12, in the Macclenny Nursing & Rehab Center, Macclenny, Florida following an extended illness. He was born and lived all of his life in Macclenny, Florida. He worked for Southern States Nursery in Macclenny, Florida as a truck driver and sales representative for over 40 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Manntown Congregational Holiness Church, Glen St. Mary, Florida. For over 35 years he operated the “Chain gang” for Baker County High School Wildcat football team and was the last living member of Baker County’s first football team. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, quail hunting and Florida Gator football. He was preceded in death by his parents, Travis Albert and Elvie Mae Anderson Byrd, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Burnice Jean Byrd of Macclenny, Florida: Five daughters, Sherri (Charles) Kelley of Fruit Cove, Florida, Susan (Billy) Pittman of Jacksonville, Florida, Sandi (Kevin) Griffis of Lawtey, Florida, Robin (Jeff) Weber and Jennifer (David) Crummey both of Macclenny, Florida: One brother, Schell (Helen) Byrd of Glen St. Mary, Florida: Fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive. A remembrance service to honor the life of Mr. Byrd will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, May 14, in the Manntown Congregational Holiness Church, Glen St. Mary, Fla. with Rev. Sam Kitching, Pastor of the Macclenny Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will be in Manntown Cemetery, Glen St. Mary, Fla. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6 to 8 P.M.
