Tyra Kathleen Sowell

Ms. Tyra Kathleen Sowell, age 88 of Jacksonville, FL passed away Thursday, August 24 in the Frank Wells Nursing Home, Macclenny, FL following an extended illness. Ms. Sowell was born in Tifton, GA and lived in Valdosta, GA before moving to Florida in 1951. Ms. Sowell was a member of Kernan Road Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL and worked for Swisher International, Jacksonville, FL for many years. She loved to read and enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Ms. Sowell is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Elias and Winnie McDaniel Sterling, and her late husband, Kenneth Earl Sowell. She is survived by one son, Leonard Earl Sowell (Cecelia) of Glen St. Mary, FL: two grandchildren, Leonard Earl Sowell, Jr. (Janice) of Jacksonville, FL and Julie Sowell Gillison (Ben) of Seattle, WA: two great grandchildren, Megan Sowell and Victoria Forness also survive. Funeral services to honor the life of Ms. Sowell will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, August 28 in the chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, Macclenny, FL with Rev. William Crook officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 10 to 11 A.M. (one hour before services) at the funeral home. Interment will be at 4 P.M. in Pine Grove Cemetery, Pinetta, GA.
