Verna Dowling Smith

Mrs. Verna Dowling Smith of Macclenny passed away peacefully at 91 years of age on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Orange Park Medical Center. She was born on May 3, 1931, in Albany, Georgia, the third of eight children to Estelle Haire Dowling and Zimon Fletcher Dowling. She was a steadfast member of the Pentecostal Holiness faith and a devoted wife and mother. Throughout her life she loved gospel music, singing, cooking, crocheting, the color red, occasional trips to the beach, and giving advice. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Russell Floyd Smith; her son Russell Lamar Smith; two sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her son Michael (Ann) Smith of Altamonte Springs; her daughter Barbara (Amos) Tomlin of Macclenny; six grandchildren, Stacy (Christy) Smith, Travis (Christie) Smith, Kaysee (John) Wheetley, Molly (Mike) Lettshek, Adam (Stephanie) Tomlin, and Alison (Lee) Watson; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Janice Jenkins, her brother Robert Dowling, and numerous nieces and nephews. Guerry Funeral Home in Macclenny is providing services. A private celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
