Bishop Walter Leroy Davis, 69 of Macclenny, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Shands Hospital in Jacksonville. Mr. Davis was born in Baker County to the late Lewis Owen and Sarah Lee Fish Davis. He was a graduate of Baker County High School and a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Davis pastored numerous churches, served numerous missions all over the world and was currently a Bishop with the Church of God. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gilford Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mrs. Carla Rewis Davis, Macclenny; one son, Shannon Davis (Katee Gifford), Lake City; one daughter, Melissa “Kissy” Hicks (Ken), St. George, GA; four brothers, Noah Davis (Ernestine), Glen St. Mary, Russell Davis (Patricia), Macclenny, Leonard Davis (Lorraine), Glen St. Mary and Cecil Davis (Carol), St. George, GA; one sister, Sarah Nell Shelar (Gary), Fernandina Beach; five grandchildren, Kenny Hicks, Fernandina Beach, Kyle Davis, Lake Butler, Kaitlyn Davis, Lake Butler, Kellon Hicks, St. George, GA and Sophia Davis, Lake City; and numerous nieces and nephews also surive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 4:00 PM at Christian Fellowship Temple with Rev. Dan Sturgill, pastor of Souls Harbor Church Of God officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Creek Cemetery in Sanderson. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8:00 PM Wednesday evening at Christian Fellowship Temple.
